Rania Hussein: “The Enneagram gave me my smile back”

Rania Hussein

The Enneagram helped me to get in touch with my inner territory, my inner landscape, and to understand  people around me better. The Enneagram gave me my life back, it gave me my smile back. Because these are things that I had lost along the way.

Rania Hussein Quotes

Something was missing!

When Rania Hussein discovered the Enneagram she was at a stage in her life where she was searching for something.

“I knew that there is more to this. It’s like there is something.

Not really fitting in my life.

It seemed that something was not proper, something was off.

I had a feeling of, I’m not content with how my life is despite everything on the outside or form wise being perfect, everything fitted in its place yet.

My inner landscape was not really at peace, not at ease.

And it seemed like – this can’t be it.

It’s, it seemed more like a movie to me where I was acting a certain role and I’m doing a brilliant job, but that’s not it.

So this pushed me into the direction of exploring more about self-development, looking into areas that could answer the questions that I had.”

Rania Hussein talks about first hearing the Enneagram mentioned at a stillness retreat with Khaled ElSherbini.

She then became curious.

The Enneagram had the answers

And a year later, Rania Hussein joined her first Enneagram course.

It changed everything.

“The Enneagram helped me to find answers to the missing questions that I had.

It helped me a lot to get in touch with my inner territory, my inner landscape, understand me more and understand also people around me more, the dynamics that are happening between us.

And I think it’s really important to understand why each person is doing what he’s doing.

So in terms of relationships, it had a big, big impact on my life. And it actually started from home.

My relationship with my family, my kids, my husband, but the bigger family, they all got impacted so much more.

But I always say one thing that the Enneagram gave me my life back, it gave me my smile back.

Because these are things that I had lost along the way.”

Collaboration and spaciousness

Rania Hussein is the head of the speaker’s committee of the Enneagram Conference in Cairo.

“When you are working within an organizing committee, it’s a job that no one person can do alone.”

It calls for a lot of collaboration between all the team members.

“The Enneagram helps me in understanding the dynamics of the team and where each one is coming from. Because we bring our own baggage, our personality shows up really strong.

And especially at times of challenges or stress, it’s right there. We just have to walk our way through it.

So it comes really handy knowing about the Enneagram because it’s like, you can have more understanding. There is a lot of spaciousness that happens within oneself for, for every human being.

You can have more compassion and stop yourself from grabbing them by the neck and say, “No, this is not how it’s done!”.

It helps make teamwork much easier.”

Co-creation in Cairo

When Rania Hussein talks about the Conference in Cairo she stresses that the cornerstone is the people.

And that she hopes a lot of people will be attending:

“We can do whatever we want to do as an organizing committee and we can work day and night and make an exquisite conference in terms of planning and logistics and speakers coming.

But if it doesn’t have an audience then it’s all in vain.

If people are not willing to come and co-create this space with us then there is no conference really.

Without them we can’t have a conference so I would say please come and help us co-create something that we all need.”

The future of the Enneagram

Flemming Christensen asks in the interview what Rania Hussein wishes for the future of the Enneagram.

“I would like to actually see the Enneagram in the world connecting to the origins of the Enneagram.

Why was it there to start with? So really away from topologies and you’re this type and I’m that type.

And more into how does this relate? How does this really help?

Okay. Now that I know my type. Now what? Now what? How does this impact me as a human being?

How does this help me navigate through life easier, smoother, and make a bigger impact? How can we all collaborate in this life?

This would definitely come out of a space that is deeper within each one of us and connecting to this deeper place.

The Enneagram gives us a possibility for that.

I believe it’s a very strong tool and it provides such a road if I’m willing to go there.

So I’m really interested in seeing a stronger link between the Enneagram and spirituality because without the spiritual aspect behind it, one would stop at a certain level.

We wouldn’t go beyond it.

So this is what I would like to see more in the world.”
