I’m more courageous in terms of showing up and speaking up and being involved with people and situations. And it’s not OK for me anymore to hide out on the sidelines with my knowledge while the world is having all kinds of problems. I feel a much stronger pull to use whatever I do know to help whoever can benefit from it.
What has the Enneagram taught Russ Hudson about being human?
Charlotte Haase has interviewed Russ Hudson in Flemming Christensen´s podcast “Enneagram Insights – on Presence, Awareness and Relationships.”
Russ Hudson was asked what the Enneagram has taught him about being human.
He answer this question in relation to Enneagram type five (or ‘point’ five as he now calls it).
He shares some insights on presence and being in contact.
You can hear his answer in the end of the podcast episode.

Habits of point five
“What the Enneagram has taught me about being human?
Well, I am an Enneagram five.
That’s my pattern.
And I had a lot of the habits of fives´.
I was very isolated. I didn’t like contact. I didn’t like people coming into my world. I’m very private.
And I also had some of the gifts of the five.
I was blessed with a very sharp mind, a good memory. I was good at figuring things out. I had some artistic talents too.
And that was all nice.
But what I got from the inner work and from the Enneagram was how important the quality of presence for me was a restoration of contact.
The contact with myself, with my own heart, with my feelings, with my body.
Through that was, of course, the restoration of contact with the world and with other people.
And I talk about this in the audio book “The Enneagram as a gateway to presence”.
Gifts and healing
I saw that when I was in more contact, the gift of my 5-ness started to operate more powerfully and more freely.
I had more insights.
I had more realizations.
And more importantly, it was a healing of my heart.
More gentle
As an Enneagram five, I still need some alone time.
I still need some privacy.
I still like those things.
And I still love to learn and read and find out about things.
But I think the main difference is I’m far more gentle.
I’m more gentle with myself.
Not ok to hide anymore
I’m more courageous in terms of showing up and speaking up and being involved with people and situations.
And it’s not OK for me anymore to hide out on the sidelines with my knowledge while the world is having all kinds of problems.
I feel a much stronger pull to use whatever I do know to help whoever can benefit from it. Even as I understand that not everyone in the world needs to know about what I have to offer.
But some people do.”
